As the Church gathers this weekend, many will praying in the aftermath of Monday’s terrorist attack in Manchester. Below is a prayer I’m praying for those affected…

“Lord, in the face of violence, death and fear, help us find the words to pray.

For the families grieving the loss of loved ones,
Lord, embrace them
For the injured, particularly those in critical care, who have survived this trauma,
Lord, heal them
For the medical teams tirelessly caring for the survivors,
Lord, sustain them
For the people of Manchester, in all their diversity,
Lord, unite them
For the police and security services seeking to keep us safe,
Lord, guide them
For the perpetrators who helped carry out this attack,
Lord, forgive them
For your Church as it responds in prayer, love and service,
Lord, empower us

For our nation, the United Kingdom,
Would your kingdom come and your will be done,
And your perfect love cast out all fear,

Feel free to use this prayer personally or as a church community. If you’re praying corporately you could read the prayer aloud, in one voice, or lead the prayer through call and response.
