What is 24-7 Prayer?
“Lord, teach us to pray…” Luke 11:1
24-7 Prayer is an international, interdenominational movement of prayer, mission and justice that began with a single, student-led prayer vigil in Chichester, England in 1999 and has spread, by word-of-mouth, into 100+ nations. For more than 15 years the global 24-7 Prayer meeting has continued unbroken, impacting locations as diverse as the US Naval Academy, a German punk festival, war-zones and underground churches, the slums of Delhi, the jungles of Papua New Guinea, ancient English cathedrals and even a brewery in Missouri.
Along the way, this unusual prayer meeting has given rise to numerous new initiatives like Prayer Spaces in Schools, communities and ministries particularly focusing on the poor, the marginalised, students and those outside the reach of normal expressions of church.
What’s the Vision?
24-7 Prayer is Reviving Church and Rewiring Culture…
Simply put, we want to learn to love God with all our hearts through prayer, and to love our neighbors as ourselves through mission and justice (Mk 12:30). We’re here to serve the Church. We do what we can to ignite and fuel prayer in people’s lives and in Christian communities, and to encourage everyone become an answer to prayer in their culture.
24-7 Prayer GB partners with Alpha – an amazing tool enabling the Church to help people explore faith. The Alpha Course is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone’s welcome. It runs in cafés, churches, universities, homes—you name it. No two Alphas look the same, but generally they have three key things in common: food, a talk and good conversation. Find out more here.
